International Day of Peace
Tipperary Town September 2022
|
International Day of Peace is designated by the UN General Assembly since 1981 and is observed around the world annually on September 21st.
This year, in Co. Tipperary, there was a Ceremony of Reflection in Tipperary Town’s St. Mary’s Church. The theme for 2022 was “End Racism, Build Peace”.
Tipperary PPN coordinator, Ruth Smith, attended along with Kuldeep Joshi, a new secretariat member for social inclusion groups in the Tipperary, Cahir & Cashel municipal district (MD) and founder member of the PPN community group, Federation of Indian Communities in Ireland (FICI).
Kuldeep was invited to say a reflection at the International Day of Peace event. He chose Gandhi’s Prayer for Peace which is below:
I offer you peace
I offer you love
I offer you friendship
I see your beauty
I hear your need
I feel your feelings
My wisdom flows from the highest source
I salute that source in you
Let us work together
For unity and peace.
|
|
|
Kuldeep was also heavily involved in the organisation of a new event this month to County Tipperary, that encouraged real intercultural connection in our county.
Funded by the County Council’s Migrant Integration Strategy fund, Indian community members in Tipperary, FICI, organised their first “ Vinayaka Festival” in Cashel. This festival included multicultural activity from Indian diaspora from all over Ireland to showcase “ Unity in Diversity” and a community fair provided a platform for other local community members to showcase their heritage. Everyone shared a meal, or jeeman, after the celebrations and activities
Kuldeep Joshi (FICI) and Margo Hayes (Tipperary County Council) with friends at the Vinayaka Festival in Cashel.
We welcome Kuldeep to the Tipperary PPN secretariat, along with Martins Punculis (Carrick-on-Suir MD Environmental rep) and Niamh Ni Chillin (Tipperary, Cahir & Cashel MD Community & Voluntary rep) and thank you for your willingness to volunteer!

Trauma Awareness Workshop
|
Wednesday, 19th October 2022, 2.00 – 5.00 p.m. in Sport & Leisure Centre, St. Joseph’s, Ferryhouse, Clonmel
Tipperary Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) invites you to a workshop on how Adverse Childhood Experiences can impact on the development of children and young people, causing trauma which can have lasting detrimental effects on behaviour and functioning. The purpose of the workshop is to raise awareness about an issue which can feature in a variety of ways among the children, young people and adults to whom you provide a service.
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) include abuse, sexual, physical and emotional, as well as sustained exposure in a home environment to such issues as domestic violence & abuse, alcohol and substance misuse and others. The cumulative impact of a number of these issues on a child’s development has been shown to significantly increase the likelihood of a child engaging in risky future behaviour, experiencing poor health outcomes (e.g. smoking, alcohol/drug misuse, poor diet and obesity, teen pregnancy, chronic disease, violence or incarceration), and having ‘difficulty in changing course’ as they move through adulthood.
The centre-piece of the workshop is a viewing of the documentary, ‘ Resilience: the Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope’, which examines the impact of ACEs and also how the promotion of resilience can stop cycles of adversity and disease and positively impact health and wellbeing.
Please contact Ruairí O Caisleáin, Tipperary CYPSC Coordinator, at contact details below to confirm a place at the workshop by Friday, 30th September 2020.
