The Power of Place and People Project Update
|
We, here at Tipperary PPN, are really excited about how our community mapping project, that is in partnership with Tipperary County Council, is going, and wanted to give you an update.
The Power of Place & People project is happening in our county now and will be going on into, at least, the rest of 2026. We have nearly finished visiting and surveying groups in Carrick-on-Suir municipal district (MD) and halfway through the Thurles MD. Maybe you have already met one of the team and filled in the survey with them?
Each physical community facility is being visited and each community group without a facility too, that are registered with the PPN. It is great for Shoyna, our PPN community mapping worker, getting out and about meeting people and everyone is making her feel so welcome.
|
Ruth (PPN Coordinator) and Shoyna (PPN Mapping Worker) meeting volunteer Patricia Loughnane
|
Shoyna often comes back to the PPN office in Thurles, enthused and amazed at what community groups are doing, saying “I had no idea what is going on out in Tipperary. I have the best job, meeting great people and listening to what they do, what they need to improve their facilities or group and usually with a lovely cup of tea!”
|
Anna and Mary (Tipperary council staff) at Ballingarry Community Café, meeting Imelda Goldsboro of the volunteer team
|
Some of the mapping team visiting groups are from the County Council too.
The picture above is two of the council staff at Ballingarry Community Café, meeting one of the volunteer team.
The aim of ‘The Power of Place and People’ project, as the mapping project is called, is to record details of County Tipperary’s many great groups, organisations and services. This information is being stored safely in one digital place and will be created into a community mapping system online.
To learn as much as possible about your group’s work, facilities, meeting times etc., it would be good if you and, also, other members of your community group could be there for the survey to be fully completed on the day. The mapping worker will also ask if they can take photos of your facilities, where appropriate.
This project supports us in progressing our work, here in Tipperary PPN and in the county council in a few ways, including understanding the needs of our registered groups in how to grow and develop, whether funding or training or something else altogether, and to really see what is happening on the ground in our communities.
Please contact Ruth Smith, by email: coordinator@ppntipperary.ie or call: 087 456 7111 for further details or if you have any queries or ideas on the project.
