Local Groups Urged to Register Defibrillators to Help Save Lives
|
Community groups across Tipperary are being encouraged to register their Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to help ensure they can be located quickly in an emergency.
An AED can save a life during a cardiac arrest, but its impact depends on people knowing where it is. By registering AEDs on the national database, emergency services and bystanders can be directed to the nearest device when every second counts.
Tipperary PPN is calling on all community organisations, sports clubs, and local groups to take a few minutes to register their AEDs and help make their communities more emergency-ready.
Registration is simple, quick, and could make a life-saving difference.
To register an AED, visit: https://surveys.hse.ie/s/aed_form

Make Way Day is moving! Mark your calendars for Friday 29th May
|
Since it first began, Make Way Day has grown into an incredible national movement, bringing communities together to highlight the everyday obstacles faced by people with disabilities on our streets. As we look ahead to our next campaign, we’re making a big change to help this movement grow even stronger.
This year, Make Way Day is moving from its traditional September slot to a brand-new date on Friday, 29th May.
Why the change of season?
We’ve reviewed our past campaigns and listened to feedback, and we believe moving to May will make a massive difference for two big reasons:
Clearing the airwaves: Historically, Make Way Day has fallen on the last Friday of September, putting us right in the middle of the frantic pre-Budget news cycle. By moving to May, our message no longer has to compete with heavy economic and political news.
Stepping into the sunshine: Make Way Day is all about getting out onto the streets to document obstacles and run walkability audits. We all know late September weather can be unpredictable, to say the least! Moving to the gateway of summer means lighter evenings, milder weather, and a safer, more enjoyable experience for all our amazing volunteers and participants.
We are working hard to finalise our campaign packs, digital assets, and resources. We will be sharing these with all our partners, local authorities, and advocacy groups very soon so you have everything you need to hit the ground running.
For now, please save the date Friday 29th May and keep an eye on our social media and www.makewayday.com for more updates. Let’s get ready to make way. For more information visit http://makewayday.com/

Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme
|
The Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme aims to support older people (aged 65 and over) to live in their own home with dignity and independence, for as long as possible. The programme’s ambition is to enable everyone to live longer healthier lives by keeping care close to home and expanding the range of health and social care services in the community. It is about providing a range of alternatives for older people who may otherwise transition into long term residential care prematurely.
To do this, we have appointed a Local Healthy Age Friendly Homes Coordinator in all local authorities. Each Local Coordinator will case manage a support package for each person referred, linking the supports from the variety of public, voluntary, private and community agencies in the area.
The purpose of this referral is to identify an older person who could benefit from some extra help and support in order to continue living in their own home. The Local Coordinator will carry out a home-based assessment and, in partnership with the older person, will identify and design a range of supports to enable the older person to continue living independently. This will not affect any current home help, medical card, pension, or other services being received.
To make are referral visit (ages 65+) https://agefriendlyireland.ie/healthy-age-friendly-homes-programme/making-a-referral/

Youth Vaping and Nicotine Use Prevention campaign
|
Tobacco Free Ireland (TFI) launched the second phase of the Youth Vaping and Nicotine Use Prevention campaign in Presentation De La Salle, Bagenalstown.
The first phase of the campaign launched in October 2025. Our goal for phase 1 was to ensure parents understood where to get information on vaping and snus, the resources available and to encourage them to talk to young people about vaping and nicotine.
This activity was supported by a public information campaign through social media, radio, and digital channels to encourage parents to talk to their children and seek trusted advice. This activity will resume for phase 2 of the campaign.
The second phase of the campaign builds on this work, focusing on young people while continuing to support adults to have conversations with their children about vaping and nicotine use. This phase is informed by consultation and research with young people and adults. It has two strands:
- A campaign for young people using a mix of organic social, paid social and creator-lead content, this content is tailored to young people and how they use digital platforms.
- A series of short, factual videos from experts for adults discussing issues like health risks, vaping myths, addiction, new products like snus or pouches, popcorn lung, oral and mental health with the young people in their lives. This phase will continue to support parents while focusing firmly on young people, the group most affected and most at risk.
