National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People 2025–2030
|
The new National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People 2025–2030 was recently launched. The strategy marks a milestone moment as the first national disability strategy since Ireland ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, UN CRPD, and the first since disability policy moved to the Department of Children, Disability and Equality, DCDE.
The strategy was shaped through extensive consultation, including strong input from Disabled Persons’ Organisations, DPOs. Many of DFI’s members played an active role, bringing forward expertise, lived experience, and community concerns.
While the human rights focus of the strategy is an important step forward, its success will depend on how it is delivered. Real change will only come if every government department takes responsibility and works together to remove barriers across health, housing, education, employment, transport, social protection and more.

Something to Fight for Narrative Research and Guidance
|
This research explores what actually helps people move away from fear and division in everyday conversations about migration, gender, and community pressure. Through rigorous message testing, we examined how people respond when inclusive, values led messages are placed alongside far right and fear based narratives.
We found that people respond best when conversations start with the realities of everyday life, housing, health care, bills, and the cost of living, and when blame is placed where it belongs, on political choices, poor planning, and profit driven systems. Strong, confident messages helped people see more clearly who benefits from the crisis, while softer, community focused messages helped keep people open, particularly on migration.
The findings are translated into practical tools, including one to one conversation examples, group work exercises, and guidance for local and social media. The aim is to support communities to have calmer, more confident conversations that reduce fear, resist scapegoating, and build solidarity.

Snapshot of the Year 2024
|
The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht has just released the ‘PPN Snapshot of the year 2024’. 2024 was an important year for the PPNs as it marked our 10th anniversary. 2024 was also a year of broader change and renewal for the Irish political landscape with local, European and national elections held. If we are to ensure there is real and effective monitoring and impact assessment of policy development and implementation using an evidence-based approach at local and national level, we need to promote deliberative democracy and insist on a process of inclusive social dialogue.
